Walk around Loch Ness - why?

A couple of reasons...

1) Having attended a Visit Scotland Tourism event the fact a route existed around Loch Ness dawned on me and I thought - what a jolly good idea that would be. I have walked, cycled, motorcycled, driven in a a car around sections of this area but never strung it together. The recently (2018) finished Glendoe piece of the track means the south side of the Loch is now complete.

2) Approaching pre-retirement (shite word, but nice concept) I wanted to start becoming less of a couch potato and slowly get back into walking again whilst I still could. Also it may mean regaining some level of fitness once more.

3) Training to be a tour guide meant that a slow bimble around the Loch would open up new aspects and more detail on points of interest already aware of.

4) I had loads of equipment from previous decades of walking that were perfectly serviceable and, with some augmentation or two, I could possibly be almost ultralight.

Planning was started in December 2018 as my voluntary redundancy was accepted then and I should have shrugged the yoke of full time employment off by the end of February 2019 if all went to plan.

At 621/2, apparently I would have so much time on my hands. Bollox - I struggled to sort out priorities fo that the things I thought I should do. That should pass by the end of March when the trip was planned for.

The next stages were in sorting out a route and checking out my gear for serviceability and weight.....

Route planning.
